Follow me (and my 5 fellow Ambassadors) on the road while I drive across Canada this summer, stopping in 34 communities in 74 days. From car washes and clean-ups to building homes for Habitat for Humanity, we’re doing it all to give back to our communities.

We Raised A Lot More Than Just The Roof In Whistler!

After a warm send off from the team at the Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre, we were off to test our ride on the new Sea to Sky Highway as we headed to our next destination.

What a send-off!

What a send-off!

I would have to say that there is no better spot to test out the full potential of the Toyota Prius – then this scenic highway. The road is filled with many steep inclines which allowed us to enjoy the “Power Mode” feature when we needed an extra boost and also use the “Eco Mode” to charge our battery while we cruised smoothly through many of the valleys.

When we arrived into Whistler, we were welcomed with a loud and friendly cheer by all of the team members of the Delta Whistler Village Suites and the Tantalus Lodge. They were eager to have the Cruiser back in their home town, help make a difference in their community and to get the party started! The 2nd Annual Raise the Roof Party took place at Buffalo Bills and was being held in support of the local charity partners: Whistler Adaptive Sports Program, and Habitat For Humanity – Sunshine Coast Region.

An incredibly successful and entertaining night ensued; to the sound of Bluesberry Jam, people mingled, raffled, and generously bid on a number of fabulous donated items. All told the evening was a huge success, raising an amazing amount (approximately $12,000) and beating their efforts from the previous year. Way to go!!

After a fun packed week of excellent events, I’m looking forward to a weekend of taking in the wonderful sights and food of Whistler, before we embark on the next leg of our journey. Look out Kelowna, here we come!!!!!

From Wake-up to Wine Down…

Posted: June 3rd, 2010 | Author: Ambassador | Filed under: Vancouver-BC | No Comments »

From wake-up to wine down, today was a whirlwind! We visited our friends at all three Delta Hotels in the Vancouver and Greater Vancouver areas. We woke up to a wonderful farewell gathering at the Delta Vancouver Suites. After some quick pics with the car, we were off to the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel! There, we received cheers, hugs and licks from our new furry-friend Cessna, the adorable hotel dog.

After that, we headed over to the Delta Burnaby to prepare for the classy Wine Down event, which all three Vancouver and area hotels were to participate in. The ballroom was beautiful, with purple decor (Purple is the new black!) and white flowers perched on the cocktail tables. The food was fabulous, as each hotel prepared it’s own main dish for the guests to sample. There was an endless supply of wines, thanks to the twelve vendors sampling their products throughout the night. To top it all off, a good deal of money was raised for Habitat for Humanity thanks to the admission tickets, 50/50 ticket sales and the silent auction items. Some left with wine, some with auction items, but all with smiles!

We have made so many wonderful friends in Vancouver that I am sad to leave. However, I am looking forward to the Raise the Roof party, which Delta Whistler Village Suites and the Tantalus Lodge have prepared for tomorrow night. As well, I am itching to take the Prius on the highway to see what she can really do. While we have had smooth rides driving in the city, I am excited to see how we do driving “Green” on the highway…still haven’t gassed up yet! Till tomorrow…

Cool Morning, Hot Coffee and Very Warm Hearts!

Posted: June 2nd, 2010 | Author: Ambassador | Filed under: Vancouver-BC | No Comments »

After a very restful sleep at the Delta Vancouver Suites, we were energized and ready to go and take part in the 1st Annual Downtown Commuter breakfast.

As the Delta Cruiser arrived at the Vancouver City Centre - Sky train station, the smell of fresh brewed coffee and tasty baked muffins filled the air.  The morning commuters were greeted by many helpful and passionate faces who were eager to provide them with a fueled breakfast for their day in exchange for a donation to the Stanley Park Ecology Society.  Generous Vancouverites smiled and could hear some friendly voices cheer ” To Help and Save everything from the whales to the snails!” as they too opened their hearts to this tremendous cause.

The efforts of the Delta Vancouver Suites team were certainly not missed behind the rain drops!  Either was the message to the community, as they raised over $500 in less than two hours! This was definitely not bad for a rainy day!

It was so nice to be home and see all of my colleagues at DVS who were absolutely phenomenal today and truly made me proud!  However, I am anxious to continue this extraordinary journey and lend a hand (or two) while making a difference at many more events across BC.  Next stop, Delta Burnaby Hotel and Conference Centre.

Not a Typical Car! Not a Typical Car Wash!

Some of our new friends!

Some of our new friends!

What a fabulous way to start this amazing journey! Waking up at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort & Spa to get ready for the Delta Community Cruiser Kick off event was not very difficult at all. With the amazing harbor views and the picturesque Olympic Mountains in the distance – who could have asked for a better spot for a car wash?

Buckets were ready and sponges were filled with sudsy soap as the cars and bikes lined up! Music filled the air, along with the smell of savory burgers being prepared by the wonderful team at the Delta Victoria. Many faces of the community, including the Chief of Victoria Police, Mr. Jamie Graham enjoyed the wacky performances by celebrity impersonators Tina Turner, Cher and back up dancer, Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Delta Victoria staff came out in full-force to volunteer their time and efforts to collect donations for Habitat for Humanity. The car wash and BBQ fundraising efforts of this fantastic team raised important money to help and support the local Habitat chapter. The excitement was contagious as the event wrapped up on a high note. The Cruiser was clean, shiny and prepared to begin its journey to board the BC Ferry to the next stop in Vancouver. Can’t wait to see what Regional Ambassador, Denise Jury’s hometown has in store for us!!
